Native American or American Indian?

There doesn’t seem to be a general consensus in Indian Country. I do legal work with tribal governments and the body of law is called federal Indian law. I work with tribal leaders who refer to themselves and other Indians as Indians. I use Indian. I also use Native or Indigenous or the tribal nation if I know it.
